This year’s BSPGHAN Associates’ and Trainees’ Meeting (ATM) will take place on the 28th (Associates & Trainees), and 29th (Trainees only) September 2017 in Sheffield. Some details are now available on the BSPGHAN website, highlights include:
- An interactive session on statistical techniques for getting started in clinical research
- Joint sessions on pregnancy and bone health in IBD, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and psychological approaches to abdominal pain for the non-specialist
- A focus on transition for Associate members
- A morning focused on the practicalities of PEG placement and jejunal feeding tubes for Trainees
The programme has been devised based on previous feedback and suggestions from members with a view to being focused on delegates’ identified training needs. Associates and Trainees are invited to get together on Wednesday evening (27th September), with accommodation at a local hotel, to start early on the 28th. Details on how to book will shortly be available on the BSPGHAN website. Costs will also be kept to a minimal as in previous years.
We are asking delegates to submit case reports for presentation, and statistical queries for analysis in plenary sessions:
Case reports: To be presented over 20 minutes, please aim for cases that are likely to have broad interest for Medical and AHP delegates. To submit for presentation please write a summary of the case (not more than 1 side of A4) and send to Carla Lloyd (email@example.com) not later than the 25th August 2017. Please also remember that these must be genuine case reports
Statistical queries: We will be conducting a plenary session on statistics with a Professor of Clinical Trials where we hope to explore useful statistical techniques using real datasets. If you have some data and you are not sure how to analyse it, if you have a particular question on a statistical test or technique, or if you have a clinical question and are not sure what data to collect in order to help answer it, we would like to hear from you. We will try to deal with as many people’s questions as possible, but in order make sure the talk is well balanced and useful for all delegates we may have to be selective. In the first instance please email Kelsey Jones to register your interest in contributing a question/data to the session (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please DO NOT send data over email before discussing because there may be ethical and logistical issues around data transfer and anonymisation that need to be resolved first.
We look forward to seeing you in Sheffield,
Nicky Heather, Chair Associate Members’ Group & Kelsey Jones, Chair Trainee Members’ Group
