CHANGES TO COUNCIL
Bhu Sandhu, Martin Brueton and Sean Devane finished their term of office at the AGM in York. I am most grateful to all of them for the hard work undertaken on behalf of the Society during their term of office, which in Martin’s case was a protracted one! They have replaced by Peter Sullivan (Secretary) Victor Miller (Treasurer) and Georgina Mieli-Vergani.
We congratulate Paul Tan on his appointment to the Chair of Paediatric Surgery in Hong Kong and thank him for his contribution to Council. Council is currently in discussion with the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons to find a surgical member of Council.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
Associate membership is now open to colleagues working in disciplines related to paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, such as clinical nurse specialists and dietitians. A reduced membership fee of £10 is payable, which does not confer voting rights. Do please encourage your colleagues to join.
ALEX MOWAT PRIZE
It was a great pleasure to all of us that Ann Mowat was able to be present at our meeting in York and to make the first presentation of this important prize. The prize is awarded for the best paper given during the meeting of the Society in York. The first winner was Vivien Rolfe from the Institute of Child Health in London - a most worthy winner.
TRAVEL AWARDS
Thanks to Martin Brueton’s good housekeeping and notable efforts by other members of the Society who have run meetings at a profit, the Society is in a sound financial state. We were
therefore able to give some young researchers assisted passages to the meeting in Dublin, Dr S Protheroe, Dr A Cade, Dr P Cuckow, Dr WG Manson, Dr A Elbadri and Dr S Hicks were the first winners of this award.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
The BSG is moving to a single meeting in the Spring, which will clash with our meeting in York. The BSPGN currently receives enough abstracts to fill our meeting in York and to make a substantial contribution to the BSG meeting. In consultation with the BPA and the BSG, Council is currently exploring the possibility of a single, streamlined abstract submission process to ensure maximal acceptance and representation in each meeting.
This document has been approved by BPA Council and will soon be published. Unfortunately the BSG wanted to make so many changes that our recommendations would have been substantially diluted. This was resisted and the document will be published in the form previously agreed.
