This is a large group of non-medical professionals composed of dietitians, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, speech and language therapists and researchers. Everyone within the membership is involved with Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
The associate members meet twice per year, the first meeting being at the winter meeting of the BSPGHAN where we hold our annual business meeting. The second meeting is our independent educational meeting, which allows associate members to meet, liaise and collaborate and learn more about their specialist areas.
Associate members have successfully contributed and help to organise postgraduate courses for nurses and dietitians at the European meeting of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN). This has provided a fabulous opportunity to meet and work with colleagues across Europe.
The associate members are contributing to the working groups of the BSPGHAN, such as the working party for the management of IBD in children and teenagers and the working party for the management of chronic constipation.
Jacqui Falconer, as the chairperson for the Associate members group represents the group on the BSPGHAN council and acts as a spokesperson at the council meetings and the Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Dear Colleague,
We agreed at the Annual General Meeting of ESPGHAN last year to include nurses and dieticians as associate members of the Society. We have recently formalised our application process (for more information and the application form click here). Please would you encourage your nurses and dieticians to become members of this new membership category.
It is a unique opportunity to demonstrate the importance of allied health professionals in supporting and strengthening care for patients across Europe.
If any nurses or dieticians particularly would like to be involved in setting up their first group, I would be very happy to discuss this with them personally either by email or by phone as indeed would any member of the Council, in particular Riccardo Troncone or Jorge Dias.
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in Iguassu but in the meantime please encourage your nurses and dieticians to join.
Yours sincerely
Deirdre Kelly
Professor of Paediatric Hepatology
President of ESPGHAN
