Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital
Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Paediatric Gastroenterology at the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital (RACH). The post is full time and available for 6 months. This post is to provide support to the Paediatric Gastroenterology service led by Dr W M Bisset and Dr G E D Mahdi. The post may be of interest to candidates with both tertiary or secondary level experience. Endoscopy experience while desirable is not essential. This post is based within the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH) with outreach commitments to our neighbouring Health Boards in Highland and Tayside. Weekly clinics and Endoscopy lists are held in Dundee and monthly clinics in Inverness. A tertiary service is provided at RACH with access to Endoscopy, full diagnostic services and Paediatric Surgery. There are weekly general Gastroenterology clinics with dedicated clinics for IBD and Coeliac Disease. Hepatology is provided in conjunction with King’s College Hospital. The service is supported by Paediatric dietitians and a nutrition support nurse. There are educational and service links with colleagues throughout Scotland. The commitment to General Paediatrics on-call rota (no Neonates) will be approximately 1:9 for nights and weeks on-call. The Consultant of the Week service covers acute Paediatrics Monday to Friday (all other commitments cancelled) and is largely ward based with 2 ward rounds daily. This post will also have a weekly general outpatient clinic.
The new purpose built RACH opened in January 2004. The hospital has 85 inpatient and 15 daycase beds and provides a wide range of secondary and tertiary Paediatric medical and surgical services. The Foresterhill site also encompasses Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a total bed complement of 1,200. The Medical School and Institute of Medical Sciences for Aberdeen University share the same site. Many opportunities presently exist to network with colleagues in secondary and tertiary care, across Scotland. This area has a population of 565,000 (Grampian) 1.2 million (North of Scotland) and the post offers the challenge of providing a high quality service across one of the most remote and rural areas in Europe. LIVER & HEPATOBILIARY UNIT
Applicants will be expected to have accredited experience in Paediatrics, with specialised skills in hepatology, gastroenterology and nutrition. Some experience in the assessment and management of intestinal transplantation would be advantageous as the post holder will be involved in assessment and management of patients referred for and undergoing isolated (and combined liver/) small bowel transplantation.
The successful candidate will be expected to share equally in the clinical duties of the Liver Unit programme with four existing hepatologists. He/She will also be expected to work closely with the transplant and hepatobiliary surgical teams.

The Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition in the Department of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and Izaak Walton Killam (IWK) Health Centre is recruiting a qualified pediatric gastroenterologist to join a dynamic, friendly academic Division. The ideal candidate will be an academic gastroenterologist with clinical and procedural skills to support both outpatient and inpatient consultative services. There are opportunities to develop or build on areas of the candidate’s interest. This position is available as of July 2008.
The Department has a competitive Academic Funding Plan (AFP) with paid vacation and generous financial support for CME. Protected research and/or education time is built into the AFP remuneration with hard money. The Department of Pediatrics provides a collegial and collaborative environment with strong support for research and education. Strengths outside the GI Division include a vaccine development centre, drug discovery unit and very strong epidemiology unit with linked prenatal, neonatal and youth population-based administrative databases.
Call and service would be shared with the two current pediatric gastroenterologists. Within the Division is a Canada Research Chair PhD psychologist in Pediatric Pain, and within the Department a PhD scientist whose research focus is in vitro and animal models of inflammation and IBD. The GI Division has active interests in clinical trials research, as well as research involving outcomes assessment, self-management and adherence in chronic disease. Education of medical students, residents and allied health professionals is another area of strength within the Division. The GI physicians are supported by a strong interdisciplinary team including 3.0 FTE nurses, 2.0 FTE dieticians, dedicated psychologists and social worker. Division members each have 0.5 FTE academic administrative support.
The IWK Health Centre is the tertiary pediatric and women’s Health Centre for the three Maritime Provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island with a combined population of over 1.8 million. We have strong support from pediatric surgery, adult gastroenterology and pathology Departments. All procedures are performed with the assistance of pediatric anesthesiology.
Halifax, with a metropolitan population of over 300,000 is lively harbor city. It has a thriving arts and Celtic music scene. It is the business and economic centre in Eastern Canada. Many of the physicians live within walking distance of the hospital and downtown Halifax. As well, there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities like sailing, kayaking and hiking. Temporary Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist
Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin
A vacancy exists for a full-time paediatric gastroenterologist at Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin from 1 April- 31 August 2008. The successful applicant will work with two other paediatric gastroenterologists to provide tertiary care paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition for the paediatric population of the Republic of Ireland. The position includes sharing in the on-call rota and provision of in-patient and out-patient care for children with the full spectrum of secondary and tertiary care GI, liver and nutrition problems. This position also has a minority commitment to the National Children's Hospital, Tallaght (two of eleven weekly sessions). Basic pay is in the region of €164,000 per annum with opportunities for additional private practice. Applicants must have or be eligible for full registration with the General Register of Medical Practitioners in Ireland and be in possession of MRCPI in Paediatrics or its equivalent. The applicant must have seven years satisfactory postgraduate training and experience in the medical profession, including four years of Paediatrics and one year of Neonatology and two years of Paediatric Gastroenterology.

This is a new post in a new team, part of a progressively developing Paediatric Service within a rapidly expanding Child Health Directorate. We are therefore looking for a dietitian with significant experience.
Newcastle offers the full spectrum of paediatric tertiary subspecialities in addition to national referral centres for severe combined immunodeficiency and related disorders, paediatric heart / lung transplantation, ECMO and the ventricular assist device programme. Presently the paediatric services are split over 3 sites but a new state of the art children’s hospital, bringing most services onto one site, is due for completion in 2009.
As part of the Paediatric Nutrition Team you will work closely with the Specialist Pharmacist, Nutrition Nurse Specialist and Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist to provide assessment and advice across the Directorate regarding children with severe nutritional issues, including those requiring parenteral nutrition. You will be able to develop new standards, protocols and policies as part of the Team and will be encouraged to take part in research. You will be responsible for the day to day management of Dieticians working within general paediatric dietetics and your own specialty. You will contribute to service planning and development in a multi-disciplinary environment.
There will be sufficient flexibility to permit a small caseload within a chosen specialty, to be agreed with the successful candidate.
