British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition

Dear Colleagues

We are delighted to announce that registration is open for the 2022 Birmingham BSPGHAN Annual meeting. We look forward to seeing friends old and new in January as we countdown to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in the summer.  Birmingham offers you the opportunity to experience a culture that’s rich, vibrant and diverse and the organising committee guarantees the warmest of hospitalities to you all.

We are delighted to announce that the fees will remain the same as those charged for BSPGHAN 2020 meeting in Brighton.

Please note that Abstract submission deadline is 26th November 2021

Earlier this year, as you know, we planned to meet in Birmingham, but priorities were elsewhere; social distancing and safety were paramount. We worked hard to offer a virtual meeting in April instead and thank you for supporting that.  BSPGHAN has focused to ensure that trainees, associates and members are not left behind with their professional development and invested in online learning and training. A huge thanks to our thanks to energetic webmaster, trainee supporters and members who have contributed and worked so hard to provide such a high quality education series.

So why meet face to face in 2022?

The pandemic has highlighted the crucial importance of colleagues acting together – in particular, the challenges that span units, regions and nations.  It has also reminded us the importance of working collaboratively and creatively to rethink priorities and shape future care.

We need the benefits that associating in person with friends offers. Being together provides different way of learning; nurtures us, helps us develop new skills, responsibility and humility. The power of long lasting friendships, networking, mutual support, laughter and fond memories can’t be understated.

We like this quote- “It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behaviour is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction.    Warren Buffett.

“We would totally hang out with you all”   … Sue and Ron

The social programme

The traditional Annual Consultant v Trainee Football Match that evening is open to all footballers and new for this time, we have the Birmingham Highlights 5k Fun Run (for those who wish). In the evening, please join us for a Drinks and Buffet reception at the Grand Hotel to relax, meet and mingle (at last!).

Birmingham’s original Grand Hotel was opened in 1879. When the hotel closed in 2002, a campaign by the people of Birmingham saved the much loved landmark from demolition; and now, almost twenty years later and following a £50 million restoration; – The Grand Hotel has just been opened.  Housed in one of Birmingham’s most iconic buildings on Colmore Row, the luxury hotel is a Grade II* listed building. Retaining the building’s French Renaissance exterior, it offers Victorian and Arts & Crafts interior; grandeur with an art deco sheen and is located in the heart of the city and surrounded by the lively bars and restaurants. New Street Station and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery are both a five-minute walk away.
