We are thrilled to announce the recipients of the highly competitive 2025 Guts UK/BSPGHAN Research Grant. This partnership remains dedicated to championing cutting-edge scientific inquiry into paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition. This year we received a vastly increased number of applications and the standard of projects was exceptionally high. After internal and external peer review, two projects were selected for funding of up to £40,000 each.
Congratulations to our two successful applicants and their projects:
- Dr. Zachary Green based at the University of Southampton and Southampton Children’s Hospital, who will lead a project leveraging AI-derived MRI biomarkers to identify sarcopenia and predict disease activity in paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a study that could transform non-invasive monitoring for young patients.
- Dr. Giovanni Giuseppe Giobbe of University College London will advance our understanding of PMM2-HIPKD, a monogenic condition with work focused on the manifestation of Antral Foveolar Hyperplasia, utilising human gastric assembloids for sophisticated in vitro modelling.
