Joint BSPGHAN/Crohn’s and Colitis UK Start-up Research Grants
Joint Research Award Crohn's and Colitis and Coeliac UK
In 2016, BSPGHAN and Crohn’s and Colitis UK joined forces to co-fund four start-up research grants, each for £10,000, with an overall aim of encouraging research in Crohn’s and colitis in children and young people. The aim was to support preliminary research that will contribute significantly to a subsequent larger research grant proposal. There were no restrictions on the scope of applications which could be stand-alone projects or linked to one or more existing studies. All Members and Associate Members of BSPGHAN were eligible to apply.
The following four projects were supported:
- Investigating the use of CD8+ T-cell DNA methylation profiles as disease prognostic biomarkers in paediatrics with IBD; Claire Lee, Cambridge
- Early measurement of faecal calprotectin as a predictor of primary non-response to treatment on paediatric Crohn's disease: a pilot study; Astor Rodrigues, Oxford
- Mechanisms of pain in paediatric IBD; Nick Croft, Barts/London
- Exploring the inter-kingdom relationships of gut microbiota in Crohn's disease; Kostas Gerasimidis, Glasgow
